Tree Management
for Schools & Institutions
- ensuring safe & healthy schools & community grounds
Professional tree assessments for community environments.
At Fox Arbor Consulting Pty Ltd, we specialise in assisting schools with tree risk management, helping to create safe learning environments. By partnering with us, schools can proactively manage tree health and safety, ensuring compliance with safety standards and providing a secure environment for students and staff.
Key services we offer:

Tree Condition and Risk Assessments
We conduct large-scale audits to ensure tree-related risks are maintained at acceptable levels. Our consultants are trained in industry-recognised tree risk assessment methods and utilise GIS data collection tools for accurate evaluations. Schools are required to manage trees on their premises as part of their occupational health and safety responsibilities. Government schools can apply for assistance to assess, manage, or remove high-risk trees through the Victorian School Building Authority’s Safe Tree Program. This program offers support in engaging qualified arborists for tree assessments and implementing necessary high-risk tree works.

Our process:
Initial Consultation – Understanding Your Site & Requirements
We begin by discussing your specific site needs and objectives, which may include:
- Assessing tree risk on school grounds to ensure student and staff safety.
- Evaluating golf course tree populations, balancing risk management with course aesthetics and playability.
- Providing independent tree risk audits to meet duty of care obligations and mitigate liability.
- Developing a long-term tree management strategy to ensure ongoing maintenance and risk minimisation.
Our team will outline a cost-effective and tailored approach that aligns with your operational needs, site constraints, and risk tolerance levels.
On-Site Tree Assessment & Spatial Mapping
Our arborists conduct a comprehensive on-ground tree inspection, using industry-accepted risk assessment methodologies such as:
- Quantified Tree Risk Assessment (QTRA)
- Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ)
Each tree is assessed for:
- Structural integrity and likelihood of failure
- Proximity to high-use areas (e.g., playgrounds, pathways, fairways, car parks, clubhouses, and sports fields)
- Signs of decay, disease, pest activity, or environmental stress
- Potential risks to infrastructure, buildings, and pedestrian zones
As part of our service, we can also spatially map tree locations using GIS technology, providing an interactive visual representation of the tree population and associated risks.
Reporting & Practical Risk Mitigation Recommendations
Following the assessment, we prepare a detailed but easy-to-understand risk report, outlining:
- Tree risk ratings (low, moderate, high, or extreme risk).
- Prioritised risk mitigation actions, including pruning, cabling, deadwood removal, or selective removals where necessary.
- Tree retention strategies to balance safety with environmental and aesthetic benefits.
- Maintenance schedules to help proactively manage tree populations over time.
Our recommendations are practical, cost-effective, and tailored to your budget while ensuring compliance with duty of care obligations and relevant Australian Standards.
Ongoing Monitoring & Support
Managing tree risk is an ongoing process, and our team remains available to provide:
- Annual or biannual reassessments to monitor changes in tree condition and risk levels.
- On-demand advisory services for tree-related concerns that arise throughout the year.
- Tree protection strategies for new developments on school grounds or golf course expansions.
- Emergency tree assessments following extreme weather events to assess damage and recommend urgent risk mitigation.
Our proactive approach to tree risk management helps schools and golf courses enhance safety, protect assets, and maintain a healthy, sustainable tree population.
