Victorian School Building Authority Safe Tree Program

Overview of the Safe Tree Program
Eligibility and Application
All government schools in Victoria are eligible to apply for the Safe Tree Program. Schools can select their preferred level of support:
- School-led works with financial assistance, provided an arborist report is already procured.
- Department-led works with financial assistance.
- Department-led works without seeking financial aid but with school-funded works.
Schools must manage low and medium-risk tree works independently, while the program focuses on high-risk tree management.
Key Components
1. Tree Assessment: Schools can receive financial assistance to engage qualified arborists for comprehensive tree health assessments.
2. Tree Protection Plan (TPP): Detailed site plans and protection measures for ongoing tree care during construction activities.
3. Construction and Post-Construction Management: Guidelines for protecting trees during construction and ensuring their health post-project completion.
Application Process
Schools can apply through the Asset Information Management System (AIMS), with applications reviewed and outcomes communicated within 30 days. The VSBA provides ongoing support and advice throughout the process.
Conclusion
The VSBA Safe Tree Program is a critical initiative for maintaining safe and green school environments in Victoria. By supporting tree management and replacement, the program helps schools balance safety with environmental stewardship.
